The shape ballcaps had before they got tall and curved. A short flat brim, an unstructured six-panel crown that sits low, and raised felt appliques stitched into the panel. This is the old ballcap silhouette, built the old way. Six panels with a seam down the front, an unstructured crown that sits low and molds to your head, and a short flat brim that stays flat. No tall foam front, no plastic snap. Melton wool with real density or heavyweight cotton twill, marks applied as raised felt stitched into the panel rather than printed on, and most styles closing with a leather strap and metal clasp.

What is a vintage flatbill hat?
It's the classic mid-century ballcap shape: a short flat brim and an unstructured crown that sits low, rather than the tall structured crown and long curved brim of a modern cap. The style comes from the wool caps ballplayers actually wore, and it's built to be worn low and broken in.
How is this different from a flat brim snapback?
A modern snapback has a structured crown that stands tall and a long, wide flat brim. A vintage flatbill has a soft unstructured crown that sits low and a shorter brim. It's a quieter, older silhouette, and it wears closer to the head.
What does six-panel mean?
The cap is built from six pieces of fabric, with a seam running down the center of the front. It's the traditional ballcap construction, and it gives the crown its rounded shape. Our five-panel flatbills leave that center seam out for a cleaner front.
Are these wool or cotton?
Both. We build vintage flatbills in Melton wool with real density for a classic ballcap feel, and in heavyweight cotton twill for a lighter everyday version. Each product page notes the fabric.
Where are these hats made?
Every vintage flatbill is cut, stitched, and inspected at our shop on Southwest Boulevard in Kansas City, Missouri. In-house from cut to ship, no offshore finishing.
How do they fit?
One size, and most close with a leather strap and metal clasp that dials the fit in and holds it. The unstructured crown sits low and softens with wear, so it feels broken in quickly without losing its shape.
How do I care for one?
For wool, brush it with a soft-bristle brush and spot clean with cold water and mild soap. For cotton, spot clean the same way. Never soak or machine wash either, and air dry with the crown shaped and the brim flat.
