Wool is where the difference between a made hat and a manufactured one shows fastest. Thin wool blends go limp in a season. The Melton we run has real weight and texture, so the crown keeps its structure, the brim stays clean, and the cap breaks in instead of breaking down. Appliques are raised felt, stitched into the panel, not printed on. Most close with a leather strap and metal clasp, the kind of hardware that outlasts a plastic snap by years. It's the construction ballcaps had when they were made to be kept.

Every wool cap is cut, stitched, and inspected in our Kansas City shop, in-house from cut to ship. Read our story, or for a custom wool run, our custom hat program works out of the same shop.

Wool hat questions, answered

Where are Sandlot wool hats made?

Every Sandlot wool hat is cut, stitched, and inspected in our Kansas City, Missouri shop. In-house from cut to ship, no offshore finishing.

What kind of wool do you use?

Melton wool with real density and texture. It holds the crown's structure, keeps the brim shape clean, and takes cold weather the way thin wool blends can't.

Are wool hats warm enough for winter?

Yes. Melton wool is a natural insulator, which is why it's the classic cold-weather ballcap fabric. It's comfortable through fall and winter and works fine on cool spring days too.

How do wool hats fit and adjust?

One size, and most of our wool caps adjust with a leather strap and metal clasp rather than a plastic snap. It dials in the fit precisely and holds it, and the hardware lasts as long as the hat. A few styles run a classic snapback instead, noted on each product page.

How do I care for a wool hat?

Brush it with a soft-bristle brush to lift dust, and spot clean with cold water and a drop of mild soap when it needs it. Never soak it, never machine wash, and air dry away from heat with the crown shaped. Wool handled this way lasts for years.

Do you make custom wool hats?

Yes. We run custom wool caps for teams, brands, and institutions from the same Kansas City shop, from concept through sampling and production. Reach out through our custom page to talk through what you're building.
